New Bike

An early birthday present and I have my new bike that will take me on my cross America Trip.

Since this is my first time writing a journal, I will fill in some details for anyone interested. On May 24th after coaxing from my son, I decided to start training for a cross country road bike trip. I used my trusty $59 Walmart 15 gear bike and started biking our town streets. The first day out and after less than 3 miles, my legs were burning, aching and feeling like jelly. But I persevered and in a month's time, I was biking 10 miles on more challenging roads with hills. My neighbor lent me his 1980 Raleigh 550 racing bike and now with a 10 pound lighter bike (but only 12 gears) I tackled more hilly terrain. Don't laugh, we do have hills in Florida. We have a lot of biking clubs in the area and it was very disheartening to struggle up and down the hills and have a group go whizzing by. P.S. I am now easily biking 20 + miles per day.

Today was my second day out on my new Trek 1200. As on many Saturdays, I met up with several cyclists. It was very rewarding to finally be able to keep up with them as we pedalled the hilly backroads around my town. Perhaps it is the new inspiration in ownership of a sleek bike fitted for me or perhaps it is the hours I have spent in the summer heat pedalling these back roads but today was a great biking day.
