Hills and Turns
hills and turns
After a few relaxing days in Tucson enjoying the climate and cacti, it is time for John and I to head north to Sedona. We had decided it would be a good opportunity to check out the biking route around Globe,AZ. We had already checked out the route in Phoenix as far as Florence Junction and it looked very doable with no particular challenges. I should not have had such thoughts for the road east of Florence Junction to Globe is full of switchback, 7-8% grades, questionable shoulders and even a tunnel as the road climbs to an elevation of 4500' from 1000' in the 30 mile stretch. I guess this is to prepare us for three days down the road when we will tackle our highest point of 8228' at Emory Pass in NM. I tried to take a couple of pictures from the car to show you the challenge but they do not do justice to the real thing. Wish us luck on the 10th day of our ride.
