March 15 - Day 15 43.2 miles total miles 770
It snowed in Silver City last night, so we decided to make a late start hoping the temps would warm up. We left our starting point at 10:30 am to start our ride to our highest point of the trip.
Temperatures were in the high 40's but we were dressed for the cooler weather. The hills continued up and up and the head wind made our climb slow. The temperatures started to drop.
We were getting tired but John kept saying only 5 more miles to the top. Five miles later he said only five more miles to the top. Then the snow flurries came blowing at us. Pam's legs could not get warm no matter how hard she pedalled. She was ready to walk the rest of the way up. John went to the top to check the mileage - 2 more miles.
Together Pam and Lynda finished the ride to the top. Temperatures now 29 degrees.
The 8 mile descent was cold and we were sure we had frost bite. The Black Range Lodge were waiting for us and had heated up their wood heated hot tub for us to thaw out in.
It was great and made all our trials of the day disappear.
