Day 5, June 30
Savannah Here We Come

Miles: 82.7
Total Miles: 321
Ride Time: 5:25
Average Speed: 15.3mph
Maximum Speed: 26.6mph
We got a late start from Brunswick (8:18am) but the temperature was 78 and the skies overcast making the start pleasantly cool. This was going to be one of our longer biking days and I knew there would be a lot of stopping for picture taking. We were riding thru the coastal salt marsh on Georgia Highway 17 again but our route was dotted with numerous plantations and historic markers. An interesting fact … the 2005 issue of the Georgia state road map has a huge map of all Georgia’s bike routes on the backside. We were on bike route 95.
Riding through the Altamaha Coastal Trail , we were treated to a concert provided by the numerous birds in this last great place of wildlife habitat. But the lure of Savannah kept our legs pedaling.
Savannah is Georgia’s first city born way back in 1733. The city with 300 years of history is the largest National Historic Landmark District in the USA. It has over 1600 restored structures within a 2.5 square mile area.
Martina is a history buff so it was easy to keep focused and to keep pedaling to our goal. Also, we did not want to get rained on like yesterday.
