Roads in the Historic South

On the road in the Historic South Posted by Picasa

This was going to be a long day’s ride as we had to go to Vidalia, GA and we did not get off very early.

We wove our way out of Savannah to highway 80 and started eastward. The roads were edged by fields of peanuts, onions and corn with groves of pecan trees nestled along the way. At one point, we saw a field covered in rocks but at a second glance we saw that it was the famous sweet vidalia onions drying in the sun. The onion scent in the air should have been a hint.

We had to watch for road signs today as we had a lot of turns to make but traffic was light making the ride easy. On thing the roads did have though was the deep rumble strips. These are the kind that makes you feel like your are at the dentist when you bounce over them.
