The fabulous Horrible Hundred
Today was my first recreational road ride and what an event… the Horrible 100; or as the Florida Freewheelers call it the fabulous Horrible Hundred.
The ride covered a lot of the hills that I ride on my outings. Roads with names like Buckhill (a series of 5 hills right after each other); the Wall ( my first time and not as bad as the name); Citrus Tower Hill (ouch); and of course “Sugarloaf Mountain (aka Heartbreak Hill, Hospital Hill and a real killer where legs have been known to buckle...this section was not on the ride I took). I rode the 38 mile course (other options were 74 and 102 miles) and had a great time cycling with a pack. I was surprised how fast I ride. Martina, Cami and I were in the first or faster group after the first few miles. The first hill was tough and my week trip up to Atlanta showed as I struggled up the rise but I recovered and had less trouble with the rest of the ride. Martina loves to go in these rides and is checking out more for us to enter.
