A New Year

It is hard to believe in just 7 weeks I will be starting off on my great biking adventure. My Canadian friend Lynda is biking with me and is just as anxious as I am to get started. She has been busy biking on a trainer as the snowy northern weather has forced her indoors. I am so lucky to live in Florida especially this year as we have had a very mild winter. I am back pedalling the roads in the mornings and burning the shoe leather in the afternoons getting donations for my chariable cause -- the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

As many of you may not know, I only starting biking at the end of May 2004. I started out on a $59 special bike from Walmart and found that after just 3 miles my legs were like jelly and my mucsles ached. In July, a neighbor gave my his 1980 Raleigh 550. Suddenly, I found I could get up the hills (more like small inclines) and the lighter bike made riding so much easier. Then in late August, I got my Trek and look at me now as I train for my cross country trip.

Lynda and I plan to leave from Dog Beach in San Diego, Ca on March 1st and ride eastward following the Southern Tier Route from www.adventurecycling.org I have tried to figure out miles and rest days as best as I can and hope to enter our schedule outline soon. Please watch for it.
