Chevaux de Frise

 
The semi-circular stone fort is enclosed by three massive stone wall 13 feet thick and 10 feet high. There is a forth outer wall which encloses the 11 acres of the fort. As an added defense the fort is protected by a chevaux de fries, an outer defense of jagged upright rocks used to prevent charging cavalry. From whom the builders were defending themselves against is anyone’s guess.
