Sticky Buns
gooey sticky buns with pecans

Day 22 – Tuesday, March 22 55.5 miles total miles 1197
We left the Hotel Limpia at 8:37 am to enjoy an easy ride to Marathon.
The wind advisory of the day before was history and we were to have light 15 mph winds from the SWS to help push us to our destination.
Like true tourist we stopped at every historical marker and read a bit of the local history. Our faithful SAG met up with us and we agreed to meet again in Alpine for a mid morning snack and a visit to a rare bicycle shop. This after all was to be an easy ride day for us.
Alpine is the county seat and one of the larger towns we have passed through. We left our bikes safely at the bike store and explored the historic part of the town. The bakery and café lured us in and soon we were all enjoying fresh hot sticky buns covered in pecans. Lynda and Pam are enjoying the fact that they can eat anything they want because they know they will pedal the calories off.
Time to hit the road again! More gentle rolling hills and the light tailwind pushing us along, made the 30 miles fly by. Just before Marathon, we came across a herd of Brahma cattle. We sat quietly by the fence hoping they would wander close enough to us to photo. They were very curious and we got our pic.
Marathon is a town of 455 people. It has numerous hotels and B&B, the most famous being the Gage Hotel. We stayed in a renovated adobe house. It was perfect for us especially as we have bikes we bring in every night.
Wandering the little town we discovered Eve’s Garden Bed and Breakfast. This place is truly interesting as a lot of the buildings are made out of recycled paper, styrofoam and Portland cement. Check out their website at http:// www.evesgarden.org
Tonight stay is truly a gem and we thank John for finding it for us.
