A New Friend
A New Friend

I started out my bike trip to honor my son and allow him celebrate in my achievement as I celebrated in his fight over cancer. But along the way in my effort to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, I have met so many people who are survivors of cancer or of losing a loved one to the disease that my focus has been altered. As I bike the backroads from California to Florida, I will be thinking of all of you and praying to give you strength in your everyday battles.
Today, I met a new friend, Elizabeth. She lost her husband one year ago to cancer. I think, we were destined to meet. Her husband was an avid bicyclist. At the age of 13, his brother and himself, biked 100 miles across England from their home to a family vacation spot. His love grew from there. When he moved to Florida, our area benefitted from his energy as he was active in the Florida FreeWheeler and other oraganizations. He loved to bike around Howey-in-the-Hills, my town. His favorite US city to visit was San Diego. He would have loved to bike with me on this trip.
See! We were destined to meet. In my travels across the USA, I will occasionally wear one of David's biking jersey as an angel on my back guiding me along the roads. You will recognize it in the photos for it is white with a big orange Kellogg's on it. The jersey was a favorite from the Professional Tour of Britain Cycle Race.
Now you have something else to look for in my photos.
