Happy Valentine's Day to Everyone!
Happy Valentine's Day to Everyone!
Yesterday, we went to Jacksonville, FL to help our daughter celebrate her 30th birthday. Oh No, she can no longer be fabulous 29!
I had taken my bike and gear as we planned to talk to her class (she is an elementary school teacher) today about our upcoming trip. They are going to track our progress across the USA. Elementary teachers are great and before I left Stockton Elementary, I visited another class to get them enthused about biking.
As we were driving south towards Howey, my husband John suggested that since I had my bike and gear, I should bike home. He dropped me off (in the rain) in Salt Springs, FL and said "I'll see you at home". Salt Springs is in the Ocala National Forest and has no cell phone coverage. Happy biking for me!
Travelling south on highway 19, in the Ocala National Forest is great as it has great clean and wide shoulders. But it also has black bears. I figured there would be enough traffic to keep the bears away from the road. The traffic must have been out to lunch as I rode several miles without a car or truck in sight. I must admit that I kept checking my mirror to make sure no bears were stalking me. As I am writing this update, you know that I rode the 55 miles to my home without a bear attack.
